NNPC in Partnership with NIPCO Gas Commissions CNG Stations in Abuja and Lagos

In a landmark event for Nigeria’s energy sector, NNPC in partnership with NIPCO Gas Limited commissioned first-ever Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Abuja and Lagos. The grand launch ceremony held on Thursday, 4th July 2024, marking a significant stride towards delivering cleaner, cheaper and more sustainable vehicular fuel for Nigerians.

The Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo officiated the commissioning of these state-of-the-art CNG stations. The event was graced by the august presence of prominent figures including Chairman of the NNPC Board Chief Pius Akinyelure, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd. Mallam Mele Kyari, Chairman of the House Committee on Gas Hon. Nicholas Mutu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe, Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Downstream Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, PCNGI Steering Committee Member and SSA (Domestic) to The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Mr. Toyin Subair. Senior Management of NNPC Limited and other dignitaries were also present to witness this pivotal advancement.

NIPCO Gas Limited expresses immense pride in contributing to the Presidential CNG Initiative aimed at expanding CNG infrastructure across Nigeria. Speaking at the event, NIPCO Gas Managing Director, Nagendra Verma, mentioned that the Presidential CNG Initiative remained a key component in the CNG drive because of its utmost dedication to promoting a viable and sustainable alternative fuel, CNG. It’s a great delight for us, to express our deep gratitude to PCNGI, NMDPRA, SON and all key stakeholders in this patronizing project of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which aimed to bestow the country an alternative auto fuel that is cheaper and environment friendly.

“We are dedicated to ensuring the availability of CNG across Nigeria. Our goal is to provide motorists with an economical and environmentally friendly fuel alternative, in line with the President’s directive,” Verma stated.
