NIPCO Gas Expands CNG Infrastructure with New Station in Tunga Maje, Abuja

In alignment with the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), NIPCO Gas Limited has further strengthened Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure with the commissioning of a new CNG refueling station in Tunga Maje, Abuja. This milestone underscores the company’s commitment to providing cost-effective and eco-friendly fuel alternatives while advancing Nigeria’s transition to a gas-powered economy.

The Tunga Maje station is strategically designed to cater to a diverse range of motorists, including private vehicle owners, commercial transport operators, and fleet managers, offering a reliable and sustainable alternative to petrol and diesel. This expansion aligns with NIPCO Gas’ broader mission to support the PCNGi by making CNG more accessible across Nigeria, ensuring a cleaner and more affordable energy option for the nation’s transportation sector.

At the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director of NIPCO Gas, Mr. Nagendra Verma, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to accelerating CNG adoption nationwide. He emphasized that the new station on the outskirts of Abuja would alleviate demand pressure on existing CNG refueling stations within the city, facilitating a smoother transition for motorists shifting to natural gas.

“The launch of this CNG station in Tunga Maje is a crucial step in making CNG a mainstream fuel alternative under the PCNGi framework. Our goal is to empower vehicle owners and businesses with a cost-effective fueling solution that not only reduces expenses but also supports environmental sustainability. NIPCO Gas remains steadfast in its mission to expand CNG infrastructure across Nigeria and drive the nation’s energy transition,” Verma stated.

The commissioning of the Tunga Maje CNG station is expected to play a pivotal role in increasing the adoption of natural gas-powered vehicles in Abuja and surrounding areas. By enhancing the availability of CNG refueling points, NIPCO Gas is actively facilitating the shift towards a more sustainable energy source, reducing carbon emissions, and lowering fuel costs.

NIPCO Gas extends its sincere appreciation to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the PCNGi for their instrumental role in making this milestone possible. Their collaboration, along with the commitment of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), has been crucial in driving the expansion of Nigeria’s CNG ecosystem and fostering energy sector transformation. With this development, NIPCO Gas continues to lead the charge in Nigeria’s clean energy transition, reinforcing its vision of making CNG a widely adopted fuel option. The company remains dedicated to strengthening the nation’s CNG network, supporting economic growth, and ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable future.
